Balloon Arch Length Formula

1. If the balloon arch is wider than it is tall:

HEIGHT + WIDTH = APPROXIMATE TOTAL LENGTH

2.  If the balloon arch height and width are about the same:

1.5(HEIGHT) + WIDTH = APPROXIMATE TOTAL LENGTH

3.  If the balloon arch is taller than it is wide:

2(HEIGHT) + WIDTH = APPROXIMATE TOTAL LENGTH

BALLOON ARCH INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1:
Measure Dacron line to desired length (see BALLOON ARCH LENGTH FORMULA) plus six feet  so that you will have enough extra to tie the ends down.

STEP 2:

Stretch archline full length and tie each end down to anchors (make sure the anchors are sturdy enough and heavy enough to hold down the completed arch).  Make sure there is 3 feet extra line on each end to be used to tie off archline when finished.

STEP 3:

Inflate two 11" latex balloons with helium.  Preferably you use a sizer to ensure that all balloons are uniform.  Tie the two balloon necks together to make a set.

STEP 4:

Repeat Step 3 to make two separate sets.

STEP 5:

Twist the two sets together making a cluster of four.

STEP 6:

Start at one each of the archline and twist one balloon of the cluster around the archline.

STEP 7:

You will repeat Steps 3 through 6 until you have filled the entire line.

STEP 8:

Once you complete the entire line, untie the ends of archlline from the anchors.  Attach to your decorating anchors (bricks, gallon sized bottles of water, etc).  Once tied down, move the ends until the arch is the height that you prefer.

***TO MAKE A TWO COLOR SPIRAL ARCHES
Make sure that balloons 1 & 2 are the same color and balloons 3 & 4 are the same color.  When you reach Step 6 on the 2nd cluster, shift the color over one slot.  Continue shifting each cluster so that the color appear to spiral around the arch.

Inflation

Helium balloons should be fully inflated but not pear shaped,  Adjust inflation to suit environental and abusive conditions.  A properly inflated balloon has a slight give to it when pressed on the middle.  Under inflating helium balloons can reduce floating time.

* Helium is an inert, non-toxic gas and is environmentally friendly.  It expands with heat and contracts with cold.  Always practice safe tank hanfling porcedures, by transporting with the cap on and securing tanks to walls or stands.  NEVER inhale helium as serious lunch injury can occur.

Ultra Hi-Float (a product which seals the porous latex barrier) increases float time up to 10x.

* Air inflated balloons should always be under inflated (example: 11" latex sized down to a 10") to increase durability.  For a long-lasting display it is crucial that balloons are kept clean.  Washable cotton sheets or plastic drop cloths work well.

*  Use the right equipment for the job.

* Tying.  The surest seal for latex is hand tying (using the tips of your fingers).  But we have some great balloon tying tools to help save your fingers. To avoid blisters from hand tying, wrap fingers with duct tape at the pressure points.

Foil balloons  are self sealing and are sensitive to expansion from heat and contraction from cold.

Production Tips

*Perform a float-time test if you plan to under infatle the balloon or expect it to support an amount of weight

*Capturing loose balloons that have escaped to the ceiling wastes time.  Work with pre-cut tethered ribbon.

* Tie a helium balloon to you scissors on a job site and they will always be found.

* Keep pre-inflated balloons in a plastic bags to keep clean and retard oxidation.  Use black bags to minimize exposure and label.
